Only a couple more days till the show! Here’s a little “step back in time”, when we shot the animation back in October.

The idea of making a stop motion animation came to us one day when I was telling Andy I’d alway wanted to make one and we realised our HARK creatures would be perfectly suited to that. It was loads of fun to shoot and we’re both very excited to see the final result of our very first attempt at stop motion! Here are a few pics from early on in the project.

We chose to make up some pyramid shapes to workout the different colour ways.

They’re beautiful objects and we even considered using them for the show but decided not to for compositional reasons.

The design process started about a year ago and we didnt actually start making any colour tests till July.

We knew pretty early on though that we wanted to work with stackable shapes and so we decided to combine our interests in Totem Poles, Children’s …

The project’s moved on considerably since, but this is a nice reminder of how it all started.

HARK blog

HARK is the project me and my studio mate Andy Macgregor have been working on for months and which will culminate in a hand crafted 3D paper installation and a stop-motion animation showing at the Old Shoreditch Station the last week of January 2012. There are other things in the pipeline relating to HARK but I’ll talk about it at a later date. We’ve just launched our blog which you can check out here. This is the very first post on it but we will both be updating it in the coming days with pics of work-in-progress and pics of the making of the animation, and more… so keep on checking!

A friend recommended I check out this beautiful series of photos called Infra by the photographer Richard Mosse. The photos were taken in conflict-torn Congo with Kodak Aerochrome film which gives the photos a surreal effect by making most of the landscape bright pink and red.
